MLS Power Rankings: Week 8

Week 8 managed to do some shuffling in the power rankings, but like most of 2008, the top and bottom of the table seem to be locked in pretty well. However, New England and TFC aren't going anywhere, and look to make a move out East. Meanwhile, in the West, LA is really starting to fire up the offense, and the top spot is within their grasps. Colorado and Houston (thanks for showing up), are sure to have something to say to that.

An early dose of the power rankings this week heading into the lengthy Memorial Day road tripping. Kevin Hartman wins this week's "Best Non-Beckham Picture" award for his courageous display of non-Beckhamness. Follow him after the jump for the full table.
#(LW) Team The Table
1(-)

Columbus Crew
Last Week: T 0-0 at Toronto Season: 6-1-1, 19 pts
A difficult tie on the road, and for all of their "diving and flopping" (according to TFC), the Crew salvage a result, staying at the top of the table.
2(-)

Chicago Fire
Last Week: L 1-2 vs Houston Season: 5-2-1, 16 pts
A number of bad bounces for Chicago as they lose in difficult conditions. Week 9 will be very important for the team as they try to bounce back before heading to NY.
3(-)

New England Revolution
Last Week: W 2-0 at San Jose Season: 5-3-1, 16 pts
The Revs are taking care of business now, beating the teams they need to beat to stay in the chase.
4(-)

Toronto FC
Last Week: T 0-0 vs Columbus Season: 3-2-2, 11 pts
The draw was a good result for TFC, and with some luck, they could have gotten the best of the Crew.
5(8)

Colorado Rapids
Last Week: W 2-0 vs RSL Season: 4-4-0, 12 pts
The Rapids get a bit of a bump after defeating an underestimated RSL side to take top of the West.
6(9)

LA Galaxy
Last Week: W 5-1 at Dallas Season: 3-3-2, 11 pts
A really impressive win from the Galaxy. Despite their recent struggles, Dallas is a talented team, and LA deserves full credit for the shellacking.
7(5)

Red Bull
New York
Last Week: T 1-1 vs KC Season: 3-1-3, 12 pts
Fortunate to get the draw with road-weary Kansas City. This week's match with the Fire will test their offense.
8(6)

Kansas City Wizards
Last Week: T 1-1 at RBNY Season: 3-3-2, 11pts
An unlucky trip to the Meadowlands, but KC keeps treading water on their lengthy road trip. Only here by way of some Western teams jumping up.
9(7)

FC Dallas
Last Week: L 1-5 vs LA Galaxy Season: 2-3-3, 9 pts
A humiliating loss caps a recent slide that cost coach Steve Morrow his job. FCD has the talent edge on the rest of the conference, and they just need to get their act together.
10(12)

Houston Dynamo
Last Week: W 2-1 at Chicago Season: 2-2-4, 10 pts
Winning streak or not, the Dynamo get full points for defeating the Fire in some harsh conditions. However, we will still keep them down here for missing our lofty pre-season expectations.
11(10)

Real Salt Lake
Last Week: L 0-2 at Colorado Season: 2-4-2, 8 pts
The RSL rollercoaster continues. We really want to rank them higher, but they keep giving us excuses not to.
12(11)

CD Chivas USA
Last Week: W 3-1 vs DC United Season: 2-4-2, 8 pts
Rounding out the wide middle of the table is Fake Chivas for their relatively respectable defeat of DC. They still have a long way to go, but this is definitely a start.
13(-)

DC United
Last Week: L 1-3 at Chivas USA Season: 2-6-0, 6 pts
It is taking every ounce of SJ's mediocrity to keep United out of the basement. DC's late collapse against Chivas gives some insight into their ailing performance this season.
14(-)

San Jose Earthquakes
Last Week: L 0-2 vs New England Season: 1-5-1, 4 pts
San Jose keeps fighting the uphill battle. Keep the faith, Quakes fans.
