MLS East Wrap: Slugging It Out

It was not the flashiest week in the Eastern Conference. By current league standards, a couple of ties and an expansion team losing on the road pales in comparison to the fireworks on display out West in Week 8. Regardless, we're here to root out the highlights wherever they are hiding and take a look at what this weekend's results mean for the conference going forward.

The results of Juan Pablo Angel's free-kick and much more after the jump.

Houston at Chicago moved to Western Wrap-upColumbus Crew 0 - Toronto FC 0
The Crew seem to be losing their momentum, although its hard to keep a full head of steam rolling through Toronto's BMO Field. A defensive struggle throughout limited both teams chances. Toronto out shot the Crew 14-7 and Columbus managed only 2 shots on goal for the entire match. Even for a quagmire like this, there was only one yellow card. Guillermo Barros Schellotto took a last ditch effort for the late PK but ended up getting booked for diving.

Kansas City Wizards 1 - Red Bull New York 1
RBNY is thanking its lucky stars for Danleigh Borman's second-half equalizer. With just 9 minutes remaining, both Angel and Altidore assisted on the tying goal that extended KC's winless streak to 3. The Wizards will get no help from the schedule makers as their road trip continues to LA to face a red hot Galaxy side. Red Bull and Chicago finally get their grudge match in week 9, but coach Juan Carlos Osorio and midfielder Dave van den Bergh will be forced to watch from the fancy seats. Both were red carded for inappropriate conduct.

San Jose Earthquakes 0 - New England Revolution 2
We end on an expected note as New England went through the motions against San Jose. The 'Quakes only managed 4 shots the entire game as the Revolution defense was in lockdown from the opening whistle. An early pair of goals from Kheli Dube and James Riley (own goal), made it all too easy for New England to sit back and grab an easy 3 points.
