You probably thought that good Catholics entering the priesthood wouldn't be quite as insane about soccer as your typical club supporters. You were wrong.A Vatican-backed football tournament for Rome seminarians and priests which has already seen its share of red cards and rows on the pitch has been forced to crack down on rowdy supporters in the stands.
After neighbours living near the ground complained of noise, trainee priests supporting their teams in the Clericus Cup tournament have been told that they will be barred from entering the ground if they continue to show up armed with drums, megaphones, trumpets, maracas and ghetto blasters.
Wait a minute -- the priests are getting red cards? Are they taking the Lord's name in vain? Does diving equate with bearing false witness against your neighbor? How many Hail Marys do you have to say for red card penance?
As for the supporters, they justified the boom box by saying they sprinkled it with holy water before the match. Before the noise ban, they were also doing most of their chants in Latin, something we just don't see enough in sports today. Thankfully, there were no chants about Dana Jacobson.
