Some of you soccer fans out there may be familiar with Ray Hudson, the former NASL footballer and former manager of several MLS clubs. He's now a color commentator for GolTV. In this video, you can hear his description of Roberto Carlos' game-winning goal in Real Madrid's 3-2 win over Recreativo Huelva today in the Spanish Premier League.
Ummm... Is he describing a goal, or a night of unrestrained passion with Keeley Hazell? Wow. To say Ray Hudson is a little excitable is like saying Hank Aaron hit a few home runs. I know that goal meant a lot to Real Madrid's title hopes in La Liga, but I think Freud said it best when he said, "Sometimes a goal is just a goal."
Of course, it's not half as much fun as Hudson's Wikipedia entry, which lists some of his more over-the-top moments in color commentary. Seriously, this guy is touched in the head.

He is certifiable. At least you didn't have to suffer through his coaching tenure at DC United like I did. Some people say he's a great announcer because of his "passion." I say that if I want someone to say insane, rambling things, I'll mute the TV and listen to myself talk.
He's the worst announcer out there, by far.

This guy takes away from the game. Sometimes you need to just watch the game and listen to the crowd instead of this nonsense. Ill have to admit that was the funniest game Ive ever watched because of him.

Seriously, I'm watching the same Barca game and it is incredibly distracting. Not only is he loud and crazy but frequently wrong on replays. Not to mention he trips over himself to heap praise on the superstars. Seriously, cringingly bad.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who can't stand this man. I think he must be the worst commentator in any sport. He doesn't seem to have any idea what a colour commentator is as opposed to a play-by-play commentator. I don't know how the other guy doesn't smack him over the head with his microphone. I wrote to GolTV to complain a while ago but got no response. Maybe if other people join in they might do something. I'd love to kick the crap out of this guy.

This guy is a noisy waste of space. Passion? How useful is a passionate pilot if he doesn't know how to land a 747? His cringeworthy slobbering over Real Madrid in their last game was a now low in football commentary. Agonising.

I sent the following comments to GolTV, I cannot f***** stand this idiot.
--------------------------------
I enjoyed the Real Madrid-Mallorca game, I would have enjoyed more if not for the insane commentator Ray Hudson. Seriously, please replace this guy, he is so emotional it sounds like he is about to have a heart attack at any minute. He is "aiyaya" like every other minute. He also pours down irrelevant comments, like "there will be a lot of loving going on in the bedrooms in Madrid", "(Diarra) like Hannibal skinned them (Mallorca) alive" -- is this really what a TV commentator supposed to say? I absolutely cannot stand him screaming on the top of his lungs for 90 minutes straight, it is very stressful listening to him. Also, he is so partial to Real Madrid, which is absurd, as a commentator for a soccer network, he should be more unbiased.

The worst commentator in the history of sport.
I watched the last two Real Madrid matches this year, and he was revolting.
To say his continuous praise of RM was effusive, is the understatement of all time.
At various points, he lost the ability to form words, and was left to make idiotic noises.
I turned the sound down, finally.
And now he's doing the Copa America.
Tonight he spent the first half emoting all over the US team, and the second half emoting all over the Argentinian team.
He is unspeakably horrible.
His incompetence is indescribable.
It's like whoever hired him set out to hire the worst possible person for the job.
Please, fire him. Fire him now.
I'll take up a collection to pay the severance.

I was about to email GolTv to complain about the incessant nattering of this guy Hudson. Hell, even the commentator had to interrupt him on occasion during the US Argentina game so that he could describe the action. I won't bother emailing Gol after reading comments here, I think they already know what the viewers think. By the way, why do we need play-by-play on television?

Just another negative comment about Ray Hudson. I will never watch another Copa game with the sound on while he is commentating. He ruins the game, seems to think that every second must be filled with incessant hyperbole, talks over action as if he is not watching tha game, and seems not to have any interaction with his colleague - who has to interrupt him to get a word in edgeways. Please have him taken away into a soundproof box.
Oh - did I mention his 180 degree about-turn last night - he should know that a game lasts 90 mins, and that a superb team like Argentina can get their act together in a few minutes. You can only run on adrenaline for so long. This guy needs to be put out to pasture.

Ray Hudson is divine. He is a poet capturing the beauty of the game in his frenetic lines of passion. Not only does he not take away from the game, he makes the game. I don't watch any without him commentating. If Shakespeare were reborn as a soccer commentator, his name would be Ray Hudson. Like Betamax, they just don't make them like Ray hudson any more.

I have this to say to all the soccer know nothings who hate Ray Hudson. He has been a credit to The Beautiful Game at whatever level and in whatever position he has found himself. I have no problem with Ray on TV in my living room sprinkling the airwaves with a bit of British pub humor, or with his so called passion. As an ex-pro player, manager, and commentator, he knows the game in ways that very few Americans can challenge for breadth and depth.
